Effective date: August 8, 2026. This statement replaces the version dated June 3, 2026 and describes the accessibility of the current website.

Our commitment

Every family should be able to use this website: parents and grandparents, kids of every ability, visitors using assistive technology, and anyone who finds motion or sound overwhelming. Accessibility was part of this site’s design from the first sketch, not an afterthought.

The standard we aim for

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. The site is tested with keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader labels, and reduced-motion settings, and we keep testing as new pages are added.

Accessibility features built into this site

• Calm Waters mode: one tap pauses the water animation, bubbles, and moving effects site-wide, and the site automatically honors your device’s “reduce motion” setting from the moment the page opens.
• Sound is opt-in: the site is silent unless you choose to turn sounds on.
• Keyboard access: navigation, menus, and interactive features work with a keyboard, and the games include keyboard-accessible modes.
• Screen-reader support: meaningful images carry text descriptions, controls are labeled, and pages use proper headings and landmarks.
• Readable design: generous type sizes, strong color contrast, and touch targets sized for small (and grown-up) hands.
• Printable alternatives: every storybook has a print-at-home PDF, and our what-to-expect storybook includes a printable social story for children who like to preview new places before visiting them.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site are visual by nature: decorative water effects (which Calm Waters turns off) and drawing-based games (which include simpler accessible modes). Videos play through YouTube’s player, which offers caption controls where captions are available. If any of this gets in your way, we want to know about it.
