What a first visit looks like

A first visit is unhurried on purpose: a comprehensive exam, a gentle look around, and plenty of time for questions. Under age three, most of the appointment is a lap exam, with a parent right there the whole time, plus teething guidance, thumb-sucking and pacifier support, and simple nutrition tips.

When to bring them in first

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by a child's first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in, whichever comes first. That timeline holds the same on both sides of the bridge.

Some kids need extra help getting comfortable with dental care, and that is completely normal. The comfort menu runs from topical anesthetic cream and gentle local anesthetics up through nitrous oxide, and for bigger treatment plans, IV sedation with a highly trained pediatric anesthesiologist. You will always discuss the options with your pediatric dentist first. Nothing happens without you.
