Why this section exists at all

The tooth starts wiggling at bath time. The chipped edge turns up in a photo from dinner. A voice in a dark bedroom announces that something feels weird back there. It almost never surfaces on a Tuesday morning when you could simply call and ask us.

So you do what every parent does at that hour: type it into a phone with one thumb, lights off. Back comes a forum thread from a decade ago, a page built to sell you something, and three strangers answering three different ways with total confidence.

This section is our reply to that. Short pieces on what parents actually ask us, in plain language, read by our care team before they go up, so what waits for you at bedtime is careful rather than loud.

What an answer here looks like

Every one follows the same pattern, because at that hour nobody wants an essay.

• Short. One question per page, settled in the first two sentences.
• Direct. The plain word first and the clinical term second, so you recognize it later on a treatment plan. Anything worth defining also lives in the glossary.
• Honestly hedged. A web page cannot see inside your child's mouth. When the honest answer is usually this, sometimes that, and it depends on the tooth, we say so.
• Ends with when to call. Each answer says plainly at what point a question stops being something to read about and becomes a reason to call us.

What you will not find here is a diagnosis. We can tell you what is common, what is worth watching, and what needs eyes on it today. Knowing which one describes your child takes someone looking in your child's mouth.

Some questions should never wait for a library

Reading is the right move for a question and the wrong move for an emergency, and the line is easier to spot than parents expect.

Call us today rather than search tonight if there is pain that is breaking through the day or keeping your child awake, swelling anywhere in the face, gums or jaw, bleeding that will not settle, or a tooth knocked loose, knocked out or broken by a fall, an elbow or a set of handlebars.
